“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.” -1 Peter 5:6-11

TRANSCRIPTION:

Good morning. Grace and peace be unto all of you, my Father’s children. It is Tuesday — I pray you had an incredible Monday, and I believe today will be even better.

We turn today to the first letter of Peter, the fifth chapter, beginning at the sixth verse.

Peter is writing to multiple audiences here — to elders, to those with authority over a flock, and more broadly to anyone who carries responsibility for leading others. Whether that is parenting, mentoring, managing a team at work, or shepherding a ministry — if you lead people, this word is for you. Because Peter is honest about something we do not always say out loud: there is a weariness that develops when you are following Christ and leading people at the same time. The weight of responsibility, carried long enough, will wear you down.

And when you get to that place — exhausted, running on empty, wondering how much more you can hold — Peter’s word is clear: this is not a moment for self-reliance. This is a moment for God-reliance. When self runs out, that is precisely when God steps in. Cast your anxieties on Him. Not some of them. All of them. Because He cares for you.

Then Peter adds something I do not want us to move past too quickly. In verse nine he says: the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. In other words — you are not alone. Whatever weight you are carrying right now, whatever trial has made you feel isolated and singled out, there are others walking through something similar. The enemy wants you to believe you are the only one. You are not. That isolation is part of his strategy — and Peter is dismantling it directly.

And then comes the promise that carries me through: after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

Four words worth holding onto. Restore — what has been broken, He will mend. Confirm — what you have been called to, He will validate. Strengthen — where you have been depleted, He will replenish. Establish — where you have felt unsteady, He will plant you firmly. These are not wishes. They are the affirmations of a faithful God who does not abandon the people He has called.

So wherever you are this Tuesday, take this with you:

You are not going through it alone. The suffering is only for a little while. And God is already at work — restoring, confirming, strengthening, and establishing you in the very place you need it most.

Be encouraged. Have an incredible day — I cannot wait to talk with you tomorrow. God bless you.
