“Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains. You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be judged. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door.” –James 5:7-9

TRANSCRIPTION:

Good morning, family. God bless you. Grace and peace be unto all of you.

I pray that wherever you are, you are safe and warm. For the saints in the tri-state area, I am especially praying that you are safe and warm on this wonderful Monday morning.

This week in our devotion, I want us to focus on patience. It feels fitting as we watch the snow that has fallen and prepare to slowly return to normal routines.

Our Scripture comes from James, chapter 5, beginning at verse 7:

“Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains. You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be judged. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door.”

James offers balance for seasons of suffering—not just suffering, but frustration.

Have you ever been in a place where you were waiting for something to change? Waiting for a situation to turn around? Waiting for reciprocity? Waiting for breakthrough?

James encourages us to mirror the life of a farmer.

There are many sayings about waiting—like “a watched pot never boils.” But James specifically points to farming. One of the hardest parts of farming is waiting for the harvest. When a seed is planted, you almost want to see immediate results.

Many of us treat our faith the same way. We plant a seed and expect an instant harvest. We watch. We monitor. We grow frustrated when we do not see movement.

But God says, “Have faith in the outcome I have already promised.”

If God said He would come through, trust that He will. If He said things would change, believe that they will. Watching it does not make it happen any faster.

And sometimes, in the act of watching and waiting for what God will do, we miss what God is already doing.

Patience requires peace. The two go hand in hand. In fact, to be patient is to be at peace. And both are things God desires for our lives.

So today, whether you are shoveling snow, adjusting your schedule, or simply navigating a season where things are moving slower than you would like, remember this:

Be patient. Establish your heart. Trust the promise.

The Lord’s day is coming.

God bless you. I pray you have a safe and incredible Monday. We will talk again tomorrow morning.
