“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. For the wrongdoer will be paid back for the wrong he has done, and there is no partiality.” –Colossians 3:23–25
TRANSCRIPTION:
Good morning. Grace and peace be unto all of you, my Father’s children.
It is Tuesday, and we are continuing in our fast and our devotional period. As we move into this new phase, I want us to focus on two words that are foundational to where God is taking us: consistency and commitment.
We turn today to the wonderful book of Colossians, the third chapter, beginning at the 23rd verse.
This is a scripture I return to often — not only to motivate others, but to motivate myself. The instruction is simple and yet searching: whatever you do for Christ, do it wholeheartedly.
It is a curious thing that we reserve our greatest energy, our sharpest focus, and our deepest commitment for the demands of everyday life — our jobs, our obligations, our personal pursuits. Yet when it comes to doing something for the Lord, we too often offer what is left over. We give Christ our second best.
If you are going to do something for God — do it all out.
I am personally burdened for those who give the Lord their leftovers. Who give the church what remains after everything else has been served. Who bring a warmed-over offering to the worship experience while going the extra mile for places and people that do not pour back into them. We ought to be people who give God more — above and beyond the ordinary, beyond the minimum, beyond what is merely convenient.
I think about my mother and the standard she set when I was young. Whether it was an Easter recitation or any church occasion, the expectation was clear: give God your best. Not what you have left. Not what you can muster at the end of the day. Your best — in your time, your talent, and your treasure.
And that standard applies even here, in this devotional space. When we wake up and enter into this time with the Lord to consecrate the start of our day, it ought to be offered wholeheartedly — not sleepily, not reluctantly, not simply to check a box and get it done, but to do it correctly, with intention and reverence.
As you move through this Tuesday, I want to leave you with a question to carry with you:
Are you giving God your best?
In your attitude. In your witness. In your day-to-day walk. In the quiet moments no one else sees. I pray that the answer is yes — and I pray the same for myself.
This week, as we focus on commitment, let us seek out our very best and offer it to the One who is worthy of nothing less.
Have an incredible day. God bless you.
