“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.” –Psalm 46:1-3

TRANSCRIPTION:

Grace and peace to you, beloved.

It is Thursday morning in the year of our Lord — and we continue our journey through the theme of peace of mind.

Each year, as we study and focus on a particular theme, God has a way of meeting us right there — testing and proving His Word in the very area we are growing in. This week is no different.

We turn today to the familiar and powerful 46th Psalm. I encourage you to read the passage in its entirety, because it stands as a testament to what it truly means to watch things around you seem to crumble — and yet still carry the favor of God. Not in the sense that nothing happens, but in the deeper, more sustaining sense: God’s keeping power with you in the midst of what is happening.

As we take in the headlines, as we watch conflict unfold before our eyes, it can be unsettling. And yet, there is good news. God is still in the refuge business. He is still in the strength business. His help is made perfect in the time of trouble.

It is one thing to speak of the Lord’s help in the past tense — to recall testimonies of what we have already been through. But what is our posture while we are going through? While we are in the midst of the storm? Refuge does not remove you from the situation. It covers you while you are in it. And that, this morning, is good news.

Because we are held within the refuge of God, we can withstand what is taking place around us. In the moments that feel like weakness, that is precisely where God’s strength is made perfect. He is our very present help in the time of trouble — and therefore, the Scripture instructs us: do not fear.

In a world that has been built on fear, we are called to operate differently. The opposite of fear is love — and God loves us so much that worry need not consume our minds. That is what it means to walk in confidence, knowing who you are and, more importantly, whose you are.

Go forth and be blessed today. Remember: God is our very present help in the time of trouble.

🙏 Join us tonight for Bible Study — 6:30 PM. We look forward to seeing you.
