Give ear to my words, O Lord; consider my groaning. Give attention to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to you do I pray. O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch. For you are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil may not dwell with you. The boastful shall not stand before your eyes; you hate all evildoers. -Psalm 5:1-5

TRANSCRIPTION:

Great Morning, how you doing? God bless you. Each and every one of you. Pastor Powell here, and it is an incredible Wednesday already. You know why it's an incredible Wednesday because we got up this morning. So, as we've been continuing on our daily devotion um through the book of Psalm for the month of January. Um I wanna take a look at Psalm, the fifth division of Psalm. Psalm five. The fifth division of Psalm. And I'm only going to read a little bit. I expect that you will read yours in your devotional time.

“Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my groaning. Give attention to the sound of my cry, my King, my God. For you do I pray. Oh Lord,  in the morning you hear my voice, in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.  If you're not a guy with delights and wickedness,  evil may not dwell with you.  Both shall not stand before your eyes.  You hate all evil doers.”

And he goes on. I love this incredible song. Psalm chapter five kind of gives us the blueprint and  or the,  you know, gamut for how we are  to worship or at least  a way that's effective for David. David said, first thing in the morning, the moment I wake up, before I put on my makeup,  I'll say a little prayer to you  that ultimately there's something to be said about the devotion of committing yourself to the very first thing that we do. So many of us do so many things when we open up our day, check our phone, check our bank account, check messages, etc. But  seeking God in the very first part of our day,  it's not something that many of us have put into practice.

However, when we think about New Year's resolutions and New Year's things,  we always talk about doing things in the morning. For example, if we're uh deciding to start a new workout regime, we're going to start at when?  In the morning. We're going to commit ourselves to  allowing it to govern or garner our day.  And there is something to be said about how you start.  If you say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, some say that. The point is to start the day off with a sense and a level of nourishment that ushers you throughout these moments.

Similar to that, he then juxtaposes the understanding for I seek you first to discuss the wickedness that he's looking at. So for you  who does not delight in wickedness, evil may not dwell with you. The voiceless shall not stand before your eyes. This whole notion, we will wake up and watch the news. And you know,  I'll never forget one of my children said something that was so profound to me. He said, “dad, when you watch the news, it's so negative.” And I was like, “I got to watch the news, because I got to know what's happening, and I know what's going on.” And to think that that's the first thing that you put in your system before you walk out the door, before you walk into your job space or into your school space.

So I want to encourage you. Couple questions you want to ask yourself. What is my priority when I wake up and is seeking God face one of them? How can I incorporate  a space or carve out time to ensure that my day starts with a devotion? What would my day look like if that was the first thing on my mind when I put my feet to the floor from my bed or open my eyes for my rest?  How do I think that that would affect the rest of my day, especially  thinking about all the other things that we start our days off with.

Well, the heading on this scripture is lead me in your righteousness. There's something to be said about the areas and spaces and when  you decide to God's face.

Just a few nuggets for you. I pray that when you read Psalm five that it gives you something, some marching orders as you move forward by faith and grace. I want you to have an incredible day. Enjoy your Wednesday. Love you. Be blessed.
