Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. – Psalm 1:1-3
TRANSCRIPTION:
Good morning, family. Happy Tuesday. Happy Tuesday. We're going to continue in our 2026 year-long devotional. And this week, I'm setting the blueprint or giving an example of what it is that my expectation is for us to commit ourselves to for the rest of this year, Monday through Friday. So what you will find is on the website, you will have a scripture, you'll have a reflection, and then there'll be a few questions. I encourage you to take this time to do this with your family so that they can be involved and honestly we can glean one from another.
But for all intents and purposes on this Tuesday, since we did Psalm 23 yesterday, I'm going to do Psalm 1 today. Now mind you, I'm not going to read the whole thing. That's for you to do, all right? But we're going to read a little bit and I'll share a few of my thoughts. Psalms opens up.
“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers, but his delight is in the law of the Lord. And on his law, he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit and its seeds and its leaf does not wither.”
This opening passage as it relates to Psalms is David introducing his firm foundation. He said, listen, David is writing this and his dialogue is embraced similar to ours. Think about it. The clock struck midnight and the chapter of 2025 closed. 2026 opened up and like many of us, it opened up with a new understanding. had new goals. We had new visions. We had new achievements. We were ready to embrace this notion of the new year and things were all going to be different and things were going to change and we were going to shift. And I'm not saying that that's wrong. What I am saying is that there is something to be said about that person who is steadfast.
As we know, just like most, new year's resolutions normally last up to about March. And that's being generous. Some of y'all like March, maybe February. The idea is not to have this gross context of 360 degree changes, but more so measured and calculated attempts to move the needle forward step by step. I think sometimes we as Christians, we just bite off more than we can chew. And what the scripture lets us know is he is like a tree planted by streams of water. There ought to be some things in your life that are constant.
There ought to be some areas that are firm. There ought to be some areas that literally reflect consistency. So maybe, maybe if you set out this year and said, hey, I'm going to go to the gym every day. Well, maybe set a manageable goal.
How about I'm going to walk a little bit more. How about I'm be conscious about what I'm putting into my body. How about taking the steps to do things which are within reason for how you move? And he says, listen, important piece as he opens up, says, listen, who walks not in the counsel of the wicked nor stands in the way of sinners. David has given us this notion that our company that we keep is very important in this next season. The people that are going to be involved in your next season, you need to be downright discriminatory as it relates to them because your relationships will ultimately garner your trajectory and that's the word for the season that that beyond making great declarations making strong assessments is equally as important. Are you adding to me? And so my question for you today and one I would ask that you ask your family. Hey, what relationships am I involved in right now that are serving me well? What relationships do I have right now that could serve me better? And what relationships do I no longer need because they don't serve me, because in order for me to embrace the greatness or the areas and spaces of growth that God wants to give to me in this season, I got to be willing to make a solid assessment of the company I keep. Because while I don't walk this thing alone, people are meant to uplift me. But sometimes there are folk that are not uplifting you, they're holding back. Or maybe you're holding yourself back with some of the areas and spaces of your ideology that need to change.
Either way, Psalm 1 opens up with an assessment. David says, I've been living for this long and this is what I have garnered. Before he opens up when I was traveling through shadows of death and still waters, he says, hey, the book opens with, let me give an overview. This is how I'm blessed in this new season.
So I challenge you on today, take an inventory and an assessment of not only the people, but the things that you're giving your attention to in this season. Have an incredible Tuesday. I'll see you. I'll see you soon. I'll be back tomorrow and we'll jump back into the songs of the Kid Life. Have a blessed one.
