To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul. O my God, in you I trust; let me not be put to shame; let not my enemies exult over me. Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame; they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous. Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long. -Psalm 25:1-5

TRANSCRIPTION:

Good morning, family of Pastor Powell here on our Friday devotion. If you've been with us all week, kudos to you. As you know, during the month of January, our devotion will be couched in the Book of Psalm. And I saw it fitting on this Friday that we kind of close out the week with this notion.

Not more than two chapters after David gives and pens the experience of walking beside still waters. Comes across this passage, what I believe really speaks to our context today. So take a look. I'm to read a little bit out of 25. I encourage you in your time to read the entire 25th Psalm to gain more context.

It reads,  “To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul. Oh my God, in you I trust. Let me not be put to shame. Let not my enemies exalt over me. Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame. They shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous. Make me to know your ways, O Lord. Teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation. For you I wait all day long.”

This scripture speaks volumes in a time and a place where both misinformation and information is sometimes challenging to come by. The scripture instructs us to be patient enough to wait on God's wisdom. And then when it speaks to this area in the space, we always feel the need oftentimes to respond.

And God says, what I need you to do David is take a moment to seek me for wisdom before you speak, before you move. Here's my question: How often have we been in a space where either emotion or something that was said or done at the time caused the reaction out of us without us waiting to seek God's wisdom?

In a world full of chaos, a world full of times where we're just unsure, life can be so confusing. And the easy response is just to respond. But the godly response is to wait on God's wisdom.

It's not easy to wait on God's wisdom because there are things which are connected to our emotional triggers and we feel the need to say and do something. And God is not saying be uh without action. What God is saying is to move prudently in this life and also to seek him first.

So, I wanna ask you, as you allow yourself to take in the day's experiences, are you allowing God to govern and garner your understanding and interpretation of what you're looking at? Or are you moved by every swaying moment and every simple time? We as Christians can't afford to not be on the right side of right. And so, scripture talks to us about being slow to action, quick to listen.

So just a few nuggets for us today. I encourage you when you read the entirety of chapter 25, the 25th division of Psalm, you'll recognize the marching orders that oftentimes I can speak for myself saying I wish I took.

So this wraps up our week. And don't mind, I'll mind you, I won't be back like this on Monday, what you will get is a scripture and a couple of questions. I think that I wanted to kind of give you the blueprint so that you can also enjoy this time of devotion, both with God and with your family.

So I encourage you to take each daily scripture from Monday through Friday and the devotional questions and spend some time with another, for a family that devotes together, stays together.

Let's get it done. Have an incredible weekend. God bless you. I'll see you soon.
